Black Bear Safaris  (1 day)          June 18 and 26, July 11 and 27,  August 8 and  13   $250  ($200)

Black bears are active in meadows throughout the park and the bird life is amazing.  Sows lead their new cubs (COY - cubs of the year) into their traditional meadows, rich with water and plant life.  They graze on these meadow greens in order to produce the milk needed by their cubs, right up until the meadows dry out in late summer - then its into the forest for the sugar pine cones and berries.  We will walk into these meadows to photograph the sows and cubs, as well as the young bears and older boars.  There are also many songbirds that are very active at this time - warblers, vireos, tanagers, etc.

This is a beautiful time to be in the park. The weather can still be cool so layered clothing is essential.  Last year there was still some snow on the ground at the higher elevations.

Reservations

We meet in Three Rivers on Highway 198 at 6am in the Pizza Factory parking lot.  From there we travel up to the Giant Grove and photograph throughout the grove and close by meadows.  There is some walking involved. We will stop for lunch, then shoot again in the afternoon.  We will photograph everything that looks good: wildflowers, landscapes, birds, etc.
