Central CA Coast Wildlife Safari                    Monday, Dec 17 and Wed, March 6    $250  ($200)

One of California's amazing wildlife locations is the coast between Piedras Blancas (near San Simeon) south to Morro Bay, and then farther south to Pismo Beach.  Northern Elephant Seals crowd the beaches at Piedras Blancas.  Massive bulls fight for beach dominance and a harem of cows to mate.  Constant fights, jostling, some birthing, mating, etc keep the action busy.  In Morro Bay we photograph the sea otters that spend time near the breakwater, and I've shot sea lions and harbor seals here as well.  In Pismo Beach we go to the butterfly sanctuary to photograph the wintering monarch butterflies hanging from the eucalyptus branches in that grove.  Our final destination is Oso Flaco Lake south of Pismo Beach.  It is a great day of wildlife photography.

Besides these animals there are many opportunities to photograph raptors, kites, coyotes, songbirds, cottontails, and other wildlife.  The coastline has an amazing abundance of animals and animal activity.

Reservations

We meet in Cambria at 7:30am and travel to the elephant seals together.  If you decide to come the night before the hotel costs are minimal at Sands by the Sea in San Simeon and at some other local hotels.  Also, there are good restaurants in town.
