My safari group had a lot of fun
in San Diego on past safaris. Not only did we get awesome Wood Ducks, Brandt's
Cormorants on nests with eggs and young, Peregrine Falcons, White-tailed Kites,
rushing Western Grebes, and breeding season Brown Pelicans, but many other duck species, raptors, wading
birds, striped skunks, coyotes, and a long-tailed weasel. We also photographed
California Sea Lions and Northern Harbor Seals. We went from one great encounter
to another. However, my personal favorite is the rushing Western Grebes at Lake Hodges. This safari is limited to 6
folks.
Reservations
We meet in Escondido, CA the night before the safari on
February 24. The weather can change so dress in layers, though we should
have cool mornings and warmer afternoons. There will be a sea breeze and marine
layer possible along the coast. A hat is
essential. We visit a number of locations, including the La Jolla cliffs,
La Jolla Cove, Lake Hodges, Santee Lakes, Santee Riparian Trails, San Elijo Lagoon Ecological
Reserve, and finish up the safari at San Jacinto Wildlife Management Area.
There is an additional 10% off if you do any of the other 4 back-to-back
safaris following the San Diego Wildlife Safari.
