With the summer crowds and the
Winnebago's gone, Yosemite is a much quieter park in the winter.
Frost coats the pines and oaks, icing over sections of the Merced
River and the waterfalls that cascade down into it. The park
looks different, feels different, and gives the photographer a
chance to capture unique images. If you are driving your own
vehicle, a 4x4 is a must, and chains can be required by the park
service, so come prepared.
We meet in Oakhurst on Highway 41, on the way to the south entrance
to Yosemite. It can be bitterly cold at this time of year, so
layered winter clothing is a must, boots, a hat, gloves, overcoat,
and tripod. In Oakhurst we will carpool to the park, taking
